A car spoiler, also known as a tail wing, is used to create a downward pressure from air resistance when the car is driving at high speeds, in order to counteract lift as much as possible, thereby providing better grip and maintaining stability at high speeds. Spoiler can also reduce the air resistance of a car and help save fuel to some extent.
The design of a car's tail wing is derived from an airplane wing, and the clever design of the wing creates an upward thrust as air passes through it; The tail wing utilizes the opposite principle to the wings to generate downward pressure on the rear of the car, ensuring that the car does not float off the ground at high speeds and maintaining a smoother ride.
Processing: one-time blow molding and injection welding molding. Among them, blow molding technology has high efficiency, low mold costs, and small post-processing volume, so currently most plastic spoilers are produced by blow molding method.
The production process of injection molding welding method is: first, injection molding two pieces on top and bottom, and then welding the two pieces together. Although this method is relatively fast in the injection molding stage, it often requires two sets of injection molds, which is expensive. At the same time, subsequent ultrasonic welding or hot plate welding also require the cooperation of the molds, resulting in high costs and overall low efficiency. Currently, it is rarely used.
he materials used for the tail wing include PC/ABS, blow molded ABS, PC/ABS, etc. My client used PC/ABS 5041 as the material for this product
Due to the large volume and heavy weight of car spoilers, and the long heating time of the melt during extrusion, the requirements for raw materials are relatively high in blow molding. Generally, ordinary ABS materials have low melt strength and poor repeatability during the hollow blow molding process, which can lead to problems such as insufficient melt strength and rapid sagging of the billet, resulting in defects such as yellowing and brittleness of the product, uneven wall thickness, and billet rupture. PU has much better impact resistance and weather resistance than ABS. Compared to weather resistant ABS, PU is slightly inferior.
What I recommend to the client is a replacement for the basic PC/PET car tail wing special material. This is an excellent PC/PET alloy with high resistance, chemical resistance, and high dimensional stability, which has excellent impact performance over a wide temperature range. And high heat resistance and good processing characteristics. It has excellent dimensional stability, good adhesion to PU based adhesives and coatings, and good UV resistance. It is specifically developed for automotive applications, such as A-pillars, colored and colorless door handles, front grilles, rear wings, and more.
